ET-710 Building and Maintaining Web Sites 

Course Objectives:  Students will learn most of the important features of Microsoft Expression Web software. Building and Maintaining Web Sites teaches the student to make Web pages, Publish Web pages to a Web Server, and troubleshoot any and all problems associated with their Web site design. 

Prerequisite:  It is expected that the student will have a basic knowledge of the use of a microcomputer. A basic understanding of the Windows 7 Operating System is also expected. In particular the student should know how to use Window Explorer to save, copy, rename, delete and move files. No prior knowledge or experience in the use of a database is required. 

Text/Materials: Text: ET-710 Building and Maintaining Web Sites, Laboratory Guide, 2010, 3rd Edition, By Robert M. Kueper Software: Microsoft Expression Web, Internet Explorer 8.0 128 Bit encryption, Windows 7 Professional.  

Teaching Methods: Lectures: Important material from the laboratory guide and PowerPoint presentations will be covered in class. Students should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student-procured, outside material relevant to topics being covered.   Demonstrations: Much of the class time will be used to demonstrate the practical use of the software for this course. Students are encouraged to carefully observe the demonstrations and also to go through the tutorial material in the laboratory guide.  

Assignments: Projects that contain critical thinking questions, answers and summary will be assigned each week to enforce the project based learning objectives.  Students should submit all projects on to the blackboard and post the weekly web work on the server according to the due dates for evaluation
